Janelle Marie Rodriguez is currently a Millennial Beat Reporter at KMEX Univision 34 Los Angeles as well as a Disney Channel Movie Surfer Host.
Janelle enjoys being able to tell stories that impact her generation and finds that her story-telling ways creates a deep connection with her viewers.
Rodriguez is a California State University of Northridge alumni. She graduated B.A in Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast and with a minor degree in Spanish Language Journalism.
Growing up, Janelle was involved in the entertainment industry. As a child actor she was constantly being casted in commercials and was invited to participate in several kid segments of Univision Sabado Gigante and Despierta America. She was even a bilingual host for a local cable television show known as "El Show De Lucky"
It was clear that her destiny was to tell stories.
Although Janelle thought she was going to be a biology major, the campus Station at CSUN is what caught her eye and she quickly switched to Journalism. She looked forward to diving in and working at the campus station only to find out that students only had access to it if you were in an upper division course. That did not stop her. Upon her first semester at the University she joined the CSUN Latino Journalist Club, quickly attaining an executive board position as Vice President. The campus had a bilingual multi-media publication known as El Nuevo Sol, where her first spanish publication could be found. As accessibility to the newsroom became available Janelle dived into any position. Upon graduating she has had hands on positions in all areas of the newsroom including: producing, editing, writing and anchoring on both television and radio formats.
On her senior year she landed two different internship opportunities. Janelle ultimately accepted both positions and used her time management skills to take advantage of the opportunities. She landed a news intern position at Univision 34 KMEX and a publicity internship at Starz Entertainment.
When Janelle is not reporting or watching the news, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and trying out new restaurants.
With her passion and drive, this south Florida native looks forward to her future in the broadcast industry.
